HNWIS2 Launch Event – Innovation: Supporting the Hydro Nation Strategy

7th February 2019 – The Lighthouse, Glasgow

HNWIS delivered a successful launch event in Glasgow on 7th February 2019, focusing on the major opportunities and challenges for water innovation in Scotland.

HNWIS’ key focus is on accelerating the development of water technologies and to build an ambitious well-connected water sector to help develop Scotland as a recognised centre of excellence. Held at the iconic Lighthouse venue – Scotland’s national centre for design and architecture – we hosted over 140 water professionals from across the region.  Participants ranged from government, industry regulators, enterprise agencies, technology innovators, research, development and testing organisations amongst others.

The main proceedings were chaired by Dr. Mark Fletcher, Arup’s Global Water Leader, with Martin Shouler, London Water Leader, facilitating an interactive panel discussion which explored how to overcome barriers, incentivise innovation and improve collaboration to accelerate the innovation journey.

Covering innovation both in strategy and practice, attendees received presentations from stakeholders including Scottish Government, Scottish Water, Scottish Enterprise, Innvoate UK KTN, HNWIS, Water Test Networks, Scottish Water Development Centres and Strathkelvin Instruments. There were also opportunities to network, as well as set up dedicated one-to-one meetings with HNWIS, SE, EEN and Interreg to explore opportunities in more detail.

Arlene Goode, Project Manager for Arup’s role as HNWIS Network Integrator, commented: “The event was very well attended and subsequent feedback has been excellent.  It was professional and stimulating, and well-balanced to help cater for the broad interests across the audience.  Many attendees also signed up for one-to-one meetings with the service, so we look forward to seeing these connections turn into tangible innovation opportunities as we move forward”.
