Energy Innovation Centre – Call for Solutions to Reduce Leakage

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS SOUGHT TO REDUCE LEAKAGES

THE CHALLENGE:

Tackling leakage is one of the water sector’s top priorities and Ofwat has the challenged the water sector to reduce leakage by 15% by 2025 as part of PR19 methodology.

WHAT IS LEAKAGE?

In England and Wales, leakage is treated water lost from the distribution system. It includes water lost from the distribution networks and supply pipe losses from consumer pipes. (Ofwat, 2019)

Leakage is affected by:

  • Operational strategies (for example pressure management)
  • Network characteristics (for example length of mains)
  • Asset condition (for example age)
  • Customer base composition (for example rural or urban)

PREFERRED OUTPUT:

The EIC is seeking innovative solutions to tackle leakage on behalf of one our water partners.

EIC are interested in any innovative materials, methods, techniques or tools that will help reduce water loss. We are seeking innovations at any technology readiness level (TRL) and from alternate industries to water if the solution is transferable.

If you have a solution that is applicable, please fill out the survey which can be found here.
